Lesson 5 of 6 · Getting real about safety
A check
Which of these is the honest thing to say about the moment of leaving?
Separation, and the intention to separate, sit among the most consistently identified markers around the worst outcomes. That is not a reason to stay and it is not a prediction about you. The studies compare abused women who were killed with abused women who were not, so they tell you which markers cluster around the worst outcomes and nothing at all about staying being safer. It is the reason preparation happens in advance rather than during a crisis, and the reason an advocate is worth reaching before the night you need one. A course cannot tell you what your situation holds, and it should not pretend the moment of leaving is the safe part.
